Is your Google Business Profile complete, with categories, services, hours and photos?
Are your business name, address and phone exactly the same on your website, Google, Yelp, Bing and Apple Maps?
Do you have 25 or more Google reviews, with new ones in the last 3 months?
Do your reviews often mention the service you provided and the town?
Does your website have a separate page for each main service?
Does each service page start with one clear sentence saying what you do, where and for whom?
Does your website have FAQs answering real customer questions?
Does your website use schema markup (LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ)?
Is your business listed on Bing Places and Apple Business Connect?
When you ask ChatGPT "best [your service] in [your town]", is your business named?
Each question in the check maps to one of these. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode run a live search, read what they find and cross-check it; these are the things they are looking for. A score of 70 or more usually means a business is a candidate for "best near me" style prompts; under 40 means it is effectively invisible to AI search today.
Google's own AI Mode and most assistants read the profile before the website. Categories, services with prices, hours, photos and Q&A are the fields that get quoted.
Name, address, phone and hours must match character-for-character on your site, Google, Bing, Apple Maps and Yelp. One old phone number on a directory lowers the model's confidence in all of them.
Assistants weigh how many reviews you have and when the last ones arrived. Ten reviews from the last quarter outweigh a hundred from three years ago.
A review that names the service and the town ('replaced our water heater in Tarrytown, same day') is a data point. 'Great job!' is a star and nothing else.
When someone asks for a specific service, the assistant looks for a page about that service. A single Services list is a weak match for every query on it.
The first sentence should say what you do, where and for whom. That sentence is what gets lifted into the answer.
Question-shaped headings followed by two-sentence answers are the easiest content for a model to quote, and they match how people phrase prompts.
LocalBusiness, Service and FAQPage markup turns facts the machine would have to infer into facts it can read. Blank or contradictory schema does the opposite.
Town and county pages tell the assistant where you work. 'Serving the tri-state area' is invisible; 'serving White Plains, Yonkers and Scarsdale' is not.
Directories, local press, chamber listings and supplier pages that repeat your name, town and service give the model the corroboration it needs before recommending you.
